How have we improved the monitoring and management of used oil tanks in remote locations?
Our goal was to provide them with continuous insight into the tank's filling status, enable automated notifications about the need for emptying, and ensure functionality even in locations with poor mobile network coverage.
Decision
In collaboration with the client, we developed and implemented a two-tier system for smart tank management:
- Electronic control circuit
We have integrated a custom electronic circuit with sensors inside the tank. The circuit includes:
- SIM card support,
- Sending data to the central platform at set intervals,
- Compatibility with 2G network.
- Monitoring and management application
We have developed an intuitive web and mobile application that enables:
- Real-time display of the status of each tank,
- Setting warnings when reaching defined charge levels,
- Centralized management of discharge schedules.
Technical challenge
The biggest challenge was communication in locations with very weak signals. By optimizing data transmission and using compression, we ensured a stable connection even with minimal network capacity (2G). This eliminated the need for additional infrastructure or changes to existing locations.
Results
- 100% visibility over all tanks in real time,
- Reducing unnecessary field trips and operating costs,
- Overflow prevention and reducing environmental risk,
- Increased efficiency in maintenance and logistics.
Technology in the service of sustainable waste management
This project shows how simple but smart technological solutions can be successfully applied even in demanding conditions. The combination of sensor technology, reliable communication and intuitive software resulted in a system that really works – everyday, reliably and without unnecessary complexity.
