Transition to the new CARNET CMS – What do schools need to know?

CARNET is introducing a new WordPress CMS for schools from October 1, 2024, replacing the old system. The change brings modern, more secure websites, but also migration challenges. Schools need professional help for a successful transition, data preservation, and training for the new system.

CARNET has made an important decision that will affect all primary and secondary schools in Croatia. As of October 1, 2024, the popular CMS system that has been used in schools for the past 15 years will be shut down. Due to the increasing security risk and a long period without updates, all schools are forced to switch to a new system based on WordPress and Divi Builder.

This change is necessary because the old CMS system, although long used and well known to schools, can no longer adequately respond to modern security challenges. CARNET recognized the need for a more modern, flexible, and secure solution that would allow schools to better manage their web content.

New CARNET CMS, based on WordPress with Adore a website creation tool, brings numerous advantages:

  • Modern design and responsiveness for all devices
  • Greater flexibility in content management
  • Better security features
  • Possibility to use numerous plugins to extend functionality

While this change brings many benefits, it also poses several key challenges for schools:

  1. Lack of professional staff: Many schools do not have staff with the necessary technical knowledge to build and migrate websites.
  2. Time pressure: The transition deadline is October 1, 2024, which may be challenging for schools with a large number of facilities.
  3. Migration quality: Ensuring that all existing content is properly transferred to the new platform is no simple task.

CARNET has prepared a series of instructions to facilitate the transition of schools to the new system. However, it is important to note that there are currently certain limitations. For example, CARNET states that transferring images and documents must be done manually, which poses a huge challenge for schools with a large number of postings.

Jellyfish has prepared a video that you can watch here:

Professional help can be crucial in this process. It can significantly speed up the migration process, ensure that all important content is transferred correctly, minimize the risk of data loss or website downtime, and provide staff with the knowledge and tools to effectively manage the new site.

Switching to a new one CARNET CMS The system presents a significant challenge, but also an opportunity, for improving schools' online presence. With proper preparation and professional assistance, this process can go smoothly and result in a modern, functional website that will serve the needs of schools for years to come.
