Very often, companies are not even aware of how much they can make their daily business easier by using an application tailored to their requirements and needs. The goal of this blog post is to “wake up” companies and direct them to digitalize their business so that they can cope with the challenges of the future and, ultimately, survive in an increasingly demanding market. We will use the example of a company that, in addition to investing in the most modern technology and equipment and exporting almost everything it produces to Western European countries (which speaks best about the quality of their products), recognized an opportunity and ordered a custom-made application for its business. It is a manufacturer of decorative panels for entrance doors, a company Grad Export doo from Vinkovci.
Grad Export had a vision: to see in real time what stage of production a certain product is in (according to the number of orders accompanying it). Our job was to solve this "problem", to enable Grad Export to work more modernly and easily. Namely, in the administration building, accompanying barcodes are printed along with the order. The orders and barcodes are sent to the production facility, where upon completion of each component (sheet metal, plastic coating, insulation, glass), the corresponding barcode is affixed to it, which the employee scans with an Android terminal.
By scanning barcodes, the application automatically shows which production phase has been completed in a particular order, and when the product is finished, the last barcode is scanned and the work order number for that product is transferred to completed orders in the application itself. This way, the employees in the administration know that the product is ready for delivery. Of course, at the client's request, a weekly delivery report is also available in the application. This means that employees can see when each order must be completed. The great thing is that the company has placed large screens in each production hall on which the employees themselves can monitor the production process, see new orders, delivery times, and the like. All steps had to be translated into the application in a meaningful way, made easy to use, and packaged in an attractive interface. Planned, made, and delivered!
An additional functionality of this application, considering several large halls and a large volume of production and numerous carts with 12 shelves for sheets each, is that each cart is marked with a barcode and by scanning it, the location of a specific sheet (with the accompanying order number) is saved in the application. In this way, the time of "searching" for a specific sheet, in order to assemble the finished product, was reduced to a minimum.
I hope that this positive example will encourage some entrepreneurs to at least think, awaken the creative spirit within them, and come up with a way to take their business to a higher level through digitalization.
Until the next blog post…
